The Michie Tavern (pronounced Mickey) is presently located close to the entrance to Monticello, but it originally started out about 18 miles away. This tavern has a number of very large rooms containing several huge fireplaces. It’s not hard to imagine how it might have looked 300 years ago with crowds of people eating, drinking and entertaining themselves with roaring fires at their back to warm a winter evening. Today it is a museum and restaurant, with a small craft store thrown in for good measure. Certainly a pleasant place for lunch after visiting Monticello.
